Parents influence whether children eat fruits, vegetables
Most children learn to like and eat vegetables before age 5 years.
Most children learn their eating habits directly from their parents plate.
NOW is the time.
A few important tips:
1) Children who SEE their parents eating fruits and vegetables are more likely to eat fruits and vegetables.
2) If you dont buy sodas and sugar drinks, there will be none available!
This sounds simple, but it is is a common area of weakness.
3) Make each fruit and vegetable FUN: What’s the colour? Is it cooked or raw.
See which style of preparation your child prefers and encourage them to experiment.
4) Make each plate colourful.

LIME drops ‘Potential Kidd’ over offensive lyrics – News – Latest News – Jamaica Gleaner.
In a message posted on its social media pages, LIME said, after analyzing the unedited version of the song, it agreed that the lyrics were unacceptable. “What we would want is for our artistes to express themselves freely but responsibly and we think civil society can play a big role in this regard,” said LIME Jamaica’s Managing Director, Garry Sinclair.
Why would LIME fail to listen to the unedited version BEFORE contracting the entertainers services?
Potential Kidd has reportedly apologized to persons who may have been offended by the lyrics. “I do not support violence against women or homosexuals,” he is quoted as saying in a release from LIME.
…Hmmmm, is THAT right?
Learn MoreBabies on Planes: Its War ~ ABC News
We all have horror stories of out-of-control toddlers on a plane. I for one believe that parents must engage and take control. 90% of the solution is in their hands (or glacial stares..) This is no time for a laid-back hands-off approach! I was surprized to see that pilots where actually removing families with tantrum-crazed toddlers from their flights. *wow* that’s serious!
Plan ahead: pack small new toys! This is important for distraction and capturing your little ones attention…but the bottom line is YOU the parent will be the entertainment and distraction all flight long.
This article from ABC news has some good tips for managing a child on a long and cramped plane ride. What have You found that really helps settle the young’uns on a plane ride? Please share your suggestions with us.

Learn MoreMy fix for GSAT placement woes
My fix for GSAT placement woes – Commentary – Jamaica Gleaner – Sunday | November 6, 2011.
2010 data show that:
1. The top-five schools, as judged by student preference, have 1,300 places; 9,000 students selected these schools as their first choice.
2. The top-10 schools, judged by student preferences had a total 2,565 places; 14,000 students selected them as first choice.
3. The top-20 schools, judged by student preferences had a total of 4,720 places; 24,239 selected these schools as first choices.
4. In 2011, Campion College, which has 210 places, had 1,635 students selecting the school as their first choice. That suggests that only one in every eight students would be successful in ‘passing’ for Campion.
Critical information already acquired from the GSAT review. How can we manage expectations and increase the number of “preferred schools”
Proposed solution
While the long-term solutions exist in the improvement of all schools to a minimum standard and the establishment of a minimum infrastructural blessing that includes an equipped science lab, computer lab, study area, library, playing field and canteen, there is need for a short-term solution which I suggest exists in a model I term the Realistic Objective School Selection Scenarios (ROSSS).
Interesting short term approach. Has the review term or the foreign review consultant been given access to this proposal?
Learn MoreSports Drinks and Healthy Hydration
Sports drinks, fruit drinks, soda and any other sugar-laced drink will never be good for children. Its just not nutrition.
Kids and Sports Drinks: Healthy Hydration or Soda Incognito?
Sports drinks may seem like a healthier kid’s beverage than soda and other sugary beverages, but that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, last week a bill sponsored by the California Medical Association was proposed that would ban the sale of all sports drinks, including Gatorade and Powerade, in middle school and high school cafeterias. Sports drinks are already banned in California elementary schools. The bill would act as an amendment to the existing code that bans the sale of soda in schools.
